Britney Spears's 72-hour psychiatric hold at the UCLA Medical Center has expired as of Sunday morning – but the singer is still hospitalized.

Legal analysts say either her psychiatrist requested an additional 14-day hold, or Spears is staying voluntarily on a day-to-day basis.

What is life like for Spears at the Stewart & Lynda Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA? According to the patient's bill of rights at the hospital, she is allowed to wear her own clothes and keep her own personal possessions, including toiletries. She may also see visitors every day and make and receive phone calls – but not on her personal cell phone. There are pay phones on the floor.

There are two wings at the hospital, separated by a kitchen/dining room. Patients sometimes mix, especially for smoke breaks out on the deck, which is gated and surrounded by a metal fence.

The average patient sees his or her attending doctor every day. Since UCLA is a teaching hospital, the attending doctors are often accompanied by students. Staffers check on patients at least once an hour, even during the night.

Acompañado por sus padres, Nick y Nina, al nominado al Óscar por Michael Clayton le esperaban decenas de admiradoras fuera de la sede para ver de cerca de la estrella de Hollywood y hacerle fotos con sus móviles. “¡Hola chicos!”, dijo a su entrada al edificio, en la que posó brevemente junto a sus padres y saludó personalmente a algunos de sus fans antes de dar su primer discurso en las oficinas de la organización.

Ataviado con un impecable traje gris marengo y escoltado en todo momento por personal de seguridad, Clooney asistió a una ceremonia presidida por el secretario general Ban Ki-Moon en la que le fue otorgado el certificado y el tradicional pin que representa a una paloma blanca y que se da a cada uno de los designados por la ONU. El artista de 46 años es el noveno Mensajero de la Paz de Naciones Unidas, uniéndose a Michael Douglas, Elie Wiesel, Jane Goodall, Yo-Yo Ma, Daniel Barenboim, Paulo Coelho, Midori Goto y la princesa Haya de Jordania.

Eva Mendes checked into Utah's Cirque Lodge and has been in the facility, which deals with substance-abuse problems, for several weeks.

"Eva has been working hard for the past year and made a positive decision to take some much-needed time off to proactively attend to some personal issues that, while not critical, she felt deserved some outside professional support. Out of respect for Eva's privacy, we do not wish to discuss further details," her rep told PEOPLE Friday.

Cirque Lodge became a familiar name last year, when Lindsay Lohan checked in for treatment. The substance for which Mendes is being treated has not been reported.

The news was first reported on TMZ.com.

At last year's Cannes Film Festival, Mendes told reporters that to feel comfortable doing a sex scene with Joaquin Phoenix in We Own the Night, which also starred Mark Wahlberg and Robert Duvall, she required a drink.

The Miami-born Mendes, 33, is of Cuban-American background and first made a name for herself when she starred with Denzel Washington in 2001's Training Day. She played Will Smith's love interest in the 2005 comedy Hitch, as well as in the screen version of the Marvel Comic Ghost Rider, with Nicolas Cage.

It seems ironic that a song that was originally about victims of the bubonic plague has turned into a fun game for young children. But whatever its origins, Ring Around the Rosey is an all-time favorite among young kids. To play, children join hands and walk or run in a circle singing:

Just hours after Britney Spears's camp announced that she was seeking psychological treatment, the pop star was in the midst of yet another public breakdown.

The trouble began Monday evening, when Spears and her confidante Sam Lutfi went for a short drive around Beverly Hills. When they returned to her Summit home at around 6 p.m., the visibly distraught singer – who appeared to be arguing with Lutfi – jumped out of the white Mercedes near the guard gate.

Spears, clutching her Yorkie puppy London, wandered around with tears in her eyes and, at one point, sat down on the curb. "She looked completely lost," says an on-scene source. Throughout it all, the gathered paparazzi snapped away.

Wearing brown high heels, cutoff shorts and a plaid fedora, Spears then seemed to downplay the incident, saying, "I'm fine. I'm . . . having a nice time with my dog." (She later hopped into a car with another photographer, Filipe Teixeira, who gave her a lift to Ralph's supermarket in Studio City, before bringing her home. He and another photographer pal were then invited inside, where they spent the remainder of the night.)

Thirty minutes later, the scene became even more surreal when Spears's paparazzi pal Adnan Ghalib – who'd been noticeably absent in recent days – showed up at the house. But the photographer was turned away at the gate.

The FinalPixx paparazzo – who recently dished on his relationship in a two-part interview on Entertainment Tonight and The Insider – proceeded to show his fellow photographers a series of text messages. In the missives, allegedly from Lutfi, the sender calls Ghalib a "manic trigger" for Spears and adds ominously that any further contact between the two "will kill her."

Police cars pulled up to the house soon afterward, apparently responding to a call from Spears's security team. "Spears drove through the gates and paparazzi followed her car on foot," said LAPD Officer Mike Lopez. "By the time officers arrived, the paps were off the property, but officers handed out citations for those who were illegally parked."

El fin de esta iniciativa es evitar los abusos sexuales que cientos de mujeres sufren cada día en este país. La autopsia de Heath Ledger fue inconclusa

La autopsia realizada la mañana de este miércoles al cuerpo del actor Heath Ledger, quien falleció la tarde del martes, fue inconclusa, por lo que determinar la causa de muerte podría tomar unos 10 días. Sin embargo, se especula que el actor pudo haber sufrido una sobredosis de distintos medicamentos, tanto recetados como no. “Esto se está investigando como una posible sobredosis, pero no está confirmado”, afirmó Paul Browne, vocero del Departamento de la Policía de Nueva York, a la cadena de noticias CNN.

People.com reporta que se encontraron “pastillas de tipo recetadas”, incluyendo píldoras para dormir, alrededor del cadáver. De acuerdo con el The Today Show (NBC), en una entrevista con el periódico The New York Times el años pasado, Ledger había admitido tener problemas para dormir y decía que en ese entonces sólo dormía alrededor de dos horas por noche. El actor también había afirmado que las píldoras para dormir no habían tenido efecto en él.

After rumors circulated on Tuesday that Anaís was expecting, the Dominican singer confirmed to our website that she was pregnant, but sadly, she’s suffered a miscarriage.

“I was pregnant. The pregnancy process got started in my body, but…for some reason it was interrupted, which [caused me] to have a miscarriage,” the 23-year-old artist revealed.

The singer explained that she took a pregnancy test on Monday, which came out positive. The later test she took, though, turned out to be negative, which means that she had an ectopic pregnancy. This occurs when the embryo implants itself somewhere other than the uterus.

January 10, 2008 – New York, NY: Tria Gallery presents Premonitions through February 9, 2008. Reception: February 9, 2008 from 6-8pm. On display will be oil on steel paintings by Jovan Villalba, with sculpture by John R.G. Roth and short films by Kun-I Chang and Youngwoong Jang.

Premonitions

We are at war. Nation against nation. Man against earth. Images of war and storm-torn landscapes surround us, so the dark and apocalyptic imagery in Premonitions resonates, capturing feelings of isolation, helplessness, fear, frustration, anger, and sometimes hope. In his paintings, Jovan Villalba finds what he calls the “grandeur of human resilience” in the face of devastation and disaster. John R.G. Roth finds elements of the absurd in American foreign policy and the Iraq war in his sculpture. And Kun-I Chang and Youngwoong Jang paint bleak, futuristic worlds in their short films. The works in Premonitions provide thought-provoking forays into the minds and imaginations of these artists, who, despite their different media, become somehow united in their mental landscapes.

Jovan Villalba

The post-modern perspective of Premonitions, according to Mr. Villalba, is rendered firmly in the apocalyptic genre. The paintings feature images of sweeping, cataclysmic events. The increasing threat of man-made devastation in forms of biological and nuclear warfare, environmental catastrophe and economic ruin, in conjunction with their magnified portrayal in the media, has created an onslaught of social alarm, and has subversively woven feelings of doom into the fabric of present-day life in America.

Each of Mr. Villalba’s paintings depicts a unique panorama exaggerated in a perilous narrative. The bold gestural marks and detailed imagery that combine abstract elements with curious references keep the work simultaneously known and unknown, thus engaging and inviting a viewer to speculate on potential circumstances. One can see the grandeur and nobility of human resilience in Mr. Villalba’s paintings, however, his message is ultimately one of hope.

Physically, the works are composed of a stainless steel platform topped by layers of oil paint. Each piece has the potential to transform, as areas of the surface that were left exposed reflect light and motion from its surroundings, filling any void, and imposing a life of its own. This work is a metaphor for a prolific locale that has succumbed to catastrophic events, yet still exudes resolute optimism and the promise of restoration.

Jovan Villalba was born in Quito, Ecuador in 1977, but spent most of his formative years in Miami. Awarded a four year full-tuition scholarship to The Cooper Union School of Art, he received merit grants and was invited to exhibit at The New York Design Center. Since graduating, Mr. Villalba has exhibited his work at galleries in New York, Los Angeles, Berlin, and at Art Basel Miami.

John R.G. Roth

John Roth’s sculpture has been displayed in solo exhibitions throughout the country and has received numerous awards. His current work is informed by subjects such as the Iraq war and the connection between America’s conspicuous consumption and resource use to foreign policy and war. Despite his serious subject matters, however, Roth never loses his sense of humor -- there is an undeniably playful quality to all of his extremely well crafted pieces.

Kun-I Chang

Kun-I Chang studied communications design at the University of Taiwan and then came to New York to study at The School of Visual Arts, where he earned his MFA is Computer Art in 2006. He is currently working as an independent filmmaker and video artist here in the city, trying to promote motion graphic design as an art form. “Fission,” an insightful and visually stunning look at our image-obsessed culture, is Kun-I’s first short. It has won over 10 film festival awards and has been screened in over 50 film festivals world-wide.

Youngwoong Jang

Youngwoong Jang received his BFA in Industrial Design in Korea, and his MFA in Computer Arts from the School of Visual Arts in New York in 2006. He is currently working as an independent filmmaker and focusing on 3D animation, exploring the connection between the organic and the mechanical. “Progress,” he says, “is not always beautiful. In order to develop, sometimes we have to destroy. For me, civilization is a nonstop circular process of construction and deconstruction.” “Mirage,” which is Youngwoong Jang’s first short, is a meditation on life in a bio-mechanical world. It has won over 20 film festival awards and has been screened in over 100 film festivals world-wide.

Tria Gallery specializes in contemporary painting and mixed media by established and emerging artists. In addition to artwork on exhibit, the gallery maintains an inventory of select works by its featured artists. Tria’s three directors, Carol Suchman, Paige Bart and Latifa Metheny, are committed to presenting artists with compelling bodies of work, and ones whose stories, should, in their estimation, be told.

Al parecer, Britney iba acompañada por el Doctor Phil McGraw, que la tratado estos días.

Nadie del personal médico ha querido dar detalles sobre el estado de la cantante y de cómo ha evolucionado. Sólo el doctor McGraw, se ha dirgido a la prensa. Según la revista People, éste ha declarado que, tras su encuentro con la 'princesa del pop' y algunos miembros de su familia, la artista 'va a necesitar, más que nunca, ayuda médica y psicológica'. El médico permaneció una hora con ella y, tras su encuentro, la acompañó al coche que la llevó de vuelta a casa.

This morning in the news a child died because his mother accidently rolled over and on top of the baby, while the baby slept in the bed with his mother!

How can I reduce my baby's risk of SIDS?

There's no guaranteed way to prevent SIDS, but you can do a number of things to greatly decrease your baby's risk:

Put your baby to sleep on his back.
This is the single most important thing you can do to help protect your baby. The rate of deaths from SIDS has dropped 40 percent since 1994, when the "Back to Sleep" campaign was launched by the American Academy of Pediatrics, the U.S. Public Health Service, the SIDS Alliance, and the Association of SIDS and Infant Mortality Programs. Make sure that others — relatives and caregivers, for example — know not to place your baby on his tummy to sleep.

Most people don't know that side sleeping isn't safe, either. In fact, if your baby sleeps on his side rather than his back, his chances of getting SIDS are doubled. That's because if you place your baby on his side he can easily end up on his tummy. Of course, by the time he's 5 or 6 months old, your baby will be able to roll over in both directions, making it a challenge for you to keep him on his back at night. At this age his risk for SIDS will start to drop, though, so just do your best to get him settled on his back, and then don't worry if he rolls over.

Keep in mind that putting your baby on his back all the time can cause him to develop a flat spot on the back or side of his head, called plagiocephaly or flat head syndrome. You can prevent it by learning how to position your baby when you lay him down. (If you have any questions about your baby's sleep position, talk to your doctor or nurse.) Also don't let your baby spend too much time in a car seat or bouncy chair, because these can also contribute to plagiocephaly. And be sure to give him plenty of time on his tummy when he's awake, to help him develop his muscles properly.

Take care of yourself and your unborn baby while you're pregnant.
To ensure your baby's health and reduce the risk of a premature birth or low birth weight (which are risk factors for SIDS), get proper prenatal care and nutrition. And you definitely won't want to smoke cigarettes or use illegal drugs during your pregnancy.

Don't allow smoking around your baby.
Keep the air around your baby — at home, in the car, and in other environments — smoke-free. If you feel you can't quit, go outside the house to smoke and make sure others do the same.

Choose bedding carefully.
Put your baby to sleep on a firm, flat mattress with no pillow and nothing but a fitted sheet under him. Don't put stuffed toys or other soft materials in his crib, either. If you can't resist covering him, use a thin blanket, and tuck it around the mattress, only as far up as his chest. If you think your baby is chilly, simply dress him in warmer clothing such as footed pajamas or in a onesie under a "wearable blanket" (a sleeveless garment that's closed along the bottom like a bag).

Avoid overheating your baby.
To keep your baby from getting too warm while he sleeps, don't overbundle him, and don't cover his head with a blanket. The room he sleeps in shouldn't be too toasty, either; it should be comfortable for a lightly clothed adult. Signs that your baby may be overheated include sweating, damp hair, heat rash, rapid breathing, restlessness, and fever.

Try to reduce exposure to infection.
SIDS sometimes occurs in tandem with respiratory and gastrointestinal infections. So it's fine to ask people to wash their hands before holding your baby. And of course, whenever possible, avoid exposing your baby to sick people.

Coquito
(Coconut Rum Eggnog)

Ingredients:
6 eggs
3/4 bottle white rum
2 cans coconut milk (or cream of coconut for a sweeter taste)
2 cans evaporated milk
2 cans sweetened condensed milk
2 tablespoons vanilla
1 cup brandy

Preparation: In a blender, beat the eggs and rum at high speed. Lower blender setting and add all additional ingredients. Bottle and chill through. Serve in small liqueur glasses.
Ensalada de Nochebuena
(Christmas Eve Salad)

Ingredients:
1/4 cup olive oil
3 tablespoons orange juice
2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon fresh cilantro, chopped
1 head romaine lettuce
2 apples, peeled and sliced into thin wedges
2 oranges, peeled and segmented
2 bananas, peeled and sliced into rounds
1 cup fresh pineapple cubes
2 beets, cooked and julienned
1/2 cup unsalted peanuts

Preparation: To make dressing, whisk together olive oil, orange juice, vinegar, salt, and cilantro in a small bowl. Set aside. Wash and dry lettuce leaves and then shred. Arrange the lettuce on the bottom of a glass bowl and layer fruit and beets over it. You can toss the ingredients together if you wish, but it´s not necessary. Top with peanuts and pour the dressing over the salad.
Pernil relleno con moros y cristianos
(Roasted Pork Stuffed with Rice and Beans)

Ingredients:
1/2 teaspoon oregano
1/2 cup sour orange juice
10 cloves garlic, chopped
1 cup olive oil
Salt and pepper
1 fresh ham or pork shoulder, 6-8 pounds
4 cups moros y cristianos (see separate recipe)

Preparation: For marinade, combine oregano, orange juice, garlic, olive oil, salt, and pepper. Let stand for an hour. With a sharp knife, cut ham or pork lengthwise, exposing the bone. Cut around the bone and remove. By making small cuts, spread meat until flat. Trim into a rectangular shape. Discard any excessive fat. Season the meat with marinade and refrigerate for at least two hours. Place moros y cristianos on the middle of meat and fold both ways to fully cover stuffing. Tie with a string both lengthwise and across. Cook in a roasting pan at 375°F for 20 minutes per pound or until inside cavity reaches 150°F.
Moros y cristianos
(Black Beans and Rice)

Ingredients:
1/2 pound black beans
5 cups water
1 bay leaf
1/2 Italian pepper (in one piece)
Olive oil
1 onion, diced
1 Italian pepper, diced
2 garlic cloves, chopped
1/2 teaspoon oregano
1 pound white rice
Salt to taste
2 garlic cloves, unpeeled and crushed
4 tablespoons olive oil
Vinegar to taste

Preparation: Soak beans in water overnight. Then bring beans, bay leaf, and the piece of Italian pepper to a full boil. Simmer until beans are soft. Strain and remove the pepper. Reserve the water (if necessary, add water to make 4 cups). In olive oil, sauté the onion, diced pepper, chopped garlic, and oregano until translucent. Add the uncooked rice to the beans and water and bring to a boil. Season with salt to taste. Reduce heat and cook covered until rice is soft. Sauté garlic in 4 tablespoons of olive oil until brown. Remove the garlic and add the oil to the rice and beans. Season with vinegar and let stand until cool.
Buñuelos con almíbar de vino y canela
(Mexican Fried Dough with Cinnamon Wine Sauce)

Ingredients for Buñuelos:
4 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup whole milk
1 large egg
1 teaspoon anise seed, crushed
3-4 cups vegetable oil

Preparation: Sift together all dry ingredients. Whisk the milk, egg, and anise seed until frothy. Combine flour and milk mixtures to make a dough.

On a floured surface, knead for 5-10 minutes. Cut into approximately 30 pieces and shape into balls. Cover with a cloth and let stand for 20 minutes. In a heavy pan, heat the oil to 350°F and fry the buñuelos in vegetable oil 3-5 minutes or until golden brown. Drain on paper towels and serve with cinnamon wine sauce.
Ingredients for Wine Sauce:
3/4 cup dry red wine
1/3 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Preparation: Simmer all ingredients, constantly stirring, until the sugar is dissolved. Spoon over the buñuelos.

Tres Leches Cake

Ingredients:
5 eggs, separated into yolks and whites
1 cup white sugar, separated
1/3 cup whole milk
1 tsp. vanilla extract (or 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract and 1/2 tsp. almond extract)
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 can (14 oz.) sweetened condensed milk
1 can (12 oz.) evaporated milk
1/4 cup whipping cream

Preparation: Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease 9-inch springform pan with additional butter and flour. Beat egg yolks with 3/4 cup sugar until light in color and double in volume. Stir in whole milk, vanilla extract, flour and baking powder. In another bowl, beat egg whites to soft peaks. Gradually add remaining 1/4 cup sugar and beat until firm but not dry. Fold egg whites into flour mixture. Pour into prepared pan, then place in oven and bake 45 minutes until golden and center is springy. Cool 10 minutes, then loosen edge of cake with knife before removing side of pan. Cool cake completely and place on deep serving plate. Prick cake all over with skewer or two-prong fork. To prepare milk syrup, combine sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk and whipping cream. Slowly pour milk mixture over cake until it is absorbed. Serve with whipped cream, if desired. If you want to frost cake, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate at least three hours before frosting.

'Raymond' Star Peter Boyle Dead at 71

Peter Boyle, the tall, prematurely bald actor who was the tap-dancing monster in "Young Frankenstein" and the curmudgeonly father in the long-running sitcom "Everybody Loves Raymond," has died. He was 71.

Boyle died Tuesday evening at New York Presbyterian Hospital. He had been suffering from multiple myeloma and heart disease, said his publicist, Jennifer Plante.

A Christian Brothers monk who turned to acting, Boyle gained notice playing an angry workingman in the Vietnam-era hit "Joe." But he overcome typecasting when he took on the role of the hulking, lab-created monster in Mel Brooks' 1974 send-up of horror films.

The movie's defining moment came when Gene Wilder, as scientist Frederick Frankenstein, introduced his creation to an upscale audience. Boyle, decked out in tails, performed a song-and-dance routine to the Irving Berlin classic "Puttin' On the Ritz."

It showed another side of the Emmy-winning actor, one that would be exploited in countless other films and perhaps best in "Everybody Loves Raymond," in which he played incorrigible paterfamilias Frank Barone for 10 years.

"He's just obnoxious in a nice way, just for laughs," he said of the character in a 2001 interview. "It's a very sweet experience having this happen at a time when you basically go back over your life and see every mistake you ever made."

When Boyle tried out for the role opposite series star Ray Romano's Ray Barone, however, he was kept waiting for his audition — and he was not happy.

"He came in all hot and angry," recalled the show's creator, Phil Rosenthal, "and I hired him because I was afraid of him."

But Rosenthal also noted: "I knew right away that he had a comic presence."

Boyle first came to the public's attention more than a quarter century before. "Joe" was a sleeper hit in which he portrayed the title role, an angry, murderous bigot at odds with the era's emerging hippie youth culture.

Although critically acclaimed, he faced being categorized as someone who played tough, angry types.

La iniciativa se denomina Fundación América Latina Solidaria (ALAS) y contará con el apoyo de un grupo de empresarios encabezado por el magnate mexicano de las telecomunicaciones, Carlos Slim, así como de organismos regionales que trabajan para ayudar a combatir la pobreza.

Entre las luminarias que integran la fundación figuran Rubén Blades, Juanes, Ricky Martin, Maná, Diego Torres, Alejandro Fernández, Juan Luis Guerra, Ricardo Montaner, Aleks Syntek, Daniela Mercury, Danilo Pérez, Fher Olvera, Alex González, David Bisbal, Babasónicos, Tania Libertad, Emmanuel, Omar Alfano y Benny Ibarra.

Los artistas planean ofrecer en el 2007 conciertos en cinco ciudades latinoamericanas para recaudar fondos. También participarán activamente en las campañas para fomentar la solidaridad.

Lo más importante "es el efecto revolucionario que puede tener la solidaridad cuando los artista latinos deciden unirse... y además de unirse invitar a otro sector fuerte de la sociedad con los empresarios", subrayó.

ALAS comenzará con programas específicos y prioritarios, como el programa "A la Vida" para mejorar la situación de las madres embarazadas, vacunación y registros de nacimientos.

El programa pretende impedir la muerte anual de 350.000 niños menores de cinco año por causas evitables.

Otro programa llamado "A la escuela" incluye las áreas de inserción y seguimiento escolar y también se enfocará en enfrentar plagas como la explotación del trabajo infantil, el proxenetismo y el comercio sexual de menores.

Ese programa busca disminuir estadísticas según las cuales unos 40 millones de niños en Latinoamérica trabajan en las calles, "otra cifra aberrante", comentó García.

El ciclo de conciertos está programado para el tercer trimestre del 2007 y es una de las actividades más importantes de la fundación. La idea es que se repitan anualmente.

Los conciertos ayudarán a "sacudir la mirada o la falta de compromiso con los que menos tienen", apuntó.

ALAS tendrá su sede en la Ciudad del Saber, una antigua base militar estadounidense, a orillas del Canal interoceánico, que se convirtió en un centro de enseñanza universitaria y técnica y en donde operan diversos organismos internacionales.

Making Headway

Sometimes (just sometimes), what counts is not what’s in your head; it’s what’s on your head.

So we asked pixie milliner Eugenia Kim to help us craft our very own hat. She took a page from her new DIY book, Saturday Night Hat: Quick, Easy Hatmaking for the Downtown Girl.

You’ll need:
½ yard fabric
½ yard lining
Scissors
Something to sew with
An iron

1) Print out template and lay it on the fabric; cut out six pieces.
2) Pin two pieces of fabric together; sew them along the side edge with a ½-inch seam.
3) Pin a third piece of fabric and sew together on one edge. Repeat with remaining fabric pieces.

4) Secure a pin at the top point and sew closed in a continuous stitch.
5) Repeat steps using the lining fabric, then turn the finished lining right side out, so you cannot see the seam from the outside.
6) Place the fabric shell over the lining and sew along the bottom edge with a ½-inch seam, leaving unsewn a 2-inch space in the center of one of the panels.

7) Turn the cloche inside out through the 2-inch space; hand tack the space closed.
8) Use an iron to steam the edges flat.
9) Place on head.

El concierto rendirá un homenaje al bengalí Muhamad Yunus y al Gramenn Bank, fundado por él; el banco y su creador fueron premiados por ayudar a que la gente salga de la pobreza mediante préstamos pequeños para inaugurar negocios.

Las conductoras del espectáculo serán las actrices Sharon Stone y Angelica Huston, y se realizará el 11 de diciembre, un día después de la entrega del premio en Oslo, informó un comunicado.

Paulina Rubio se unirá en el concierto a Lionel Richie, el astro del género Rhythm & Blues; Simply Red, el grupo británico pop; Wynonna, la cantante folclórica estadunidense; Renee Fleming, la soprano estadounidense, y Stevens, el controversial cantante londinense que se convirtió al islam .

En reciente visita a México, la intérprete de temas como "Ni una sola palabra" y "Miénteme una vez más", señaló que su artista favorito es Bono de U2, porque "creo que ha hecho buen trabajo a nivel social en África, Nicaragua y Guatemala, y aunque sea muy "rockstar" ha sabido ayudar a otras personas que lo necesitan".

Estocolmo, Suecia, 8 de diciembre, 2006 (AP) - Hennes & Mauritz, la mayor tienda de modas de Europa, ha firmado nuevamente un contrato con Madonna para lanzar una línea de ropa.

Madonna se unió a Margareta van den Bosch, directora de diseño de moda de H&M, para crear la colección de ropa para mujer "M by Madonna", programada para salir en marzo al mercado mundial, anunció la compañía.

Ésta es la segunda vez que la artista de 48 años de edad colabora con la cadena sueca de ropa. H&M surtió a Madonna y a su comitiva con vestuario para el escenario y fuera del escenario durante su gira mundial llamada "Confessions".

"No he guardado en secreto mi atracción por las tendencias de la moda", dijo Madonna en un comunicado. "Trabajar con Margareta y con H&M fue un reto emocionante y creativo para mí. Estoy muy contenta con los resultados y espero lucir la moda `M by Madonna' junto con el resto del mundo", anotó.

H&M dijo que la nueva colección "reflejará el estilo único, glamoroso y perdurable de Madonna".

Vacuuming fat from more than 455,000 patients - and some $1.2 billion out of their wallets - made liposuction the No. 1 cosmetic surgery procedure in the U.S. in 2005. Like many operations, standard liposuction procedures carry a risk of infection, other complications and even death. But a startup called LipoSonix hopes to minimize such dangers with a device that can dissolve fatty tissue without penetrating the skin.

The device uses high-intensity ultrasound energy, which breaks down the adipose tissue, or fat. About a week after the procedure, which takes about an hour and requires no hospitalization, "the body's normal healing response takes over," says LipoSonix CEO Dr. Jens Quistgaard, and the fat cells are reabsorbed and metabolized.

About 70 patients have participated in clinical trials in Mexico, which are still underway, and LipoSonix plans to begin testing in the U.S. in early 2007. At the same time, the company plans to stage trials in Britain, France, Germany, Italy and Spain. Depending on how long the U.S. trials take, LipoSonix hopes to hit the market late in 2007.

Don't count on the device to make significant inroads into the current obesity epidemic in the U.S., however. Most patients enrolled in the Mexico test have had one to 1.5 pounds of fat removed during each procedure, and Quistgaard says that number isn't likely to change when U.S. trials begin. By comparison, surgical liposuction can remove as much as five pounds of fat. In other words, LipoSonix may help you lose the love handles, but it won't take away that spare tire. --Mikhail Sedov

Todo ha cambiado en la vida de David Bisbal desde que comenzó su andadura en Operación Triunfo. En estos cinco intensos años, el almeriense ha alcanzado la fama y su imagen se ha convertido en una garantía de éxito. Eso han debido pensar los responsables de Idesa Parfums, que se pusieron manos a la obra para lanzar una fragancia con el cantante. Hoy, los fans del joven están de enhorabuena, pues el aroma se acaba de presentar en Madrid.

Un aroma que nos dio a conocer el propio Bisbal en el madrileño Círculo de Bellas Artes. Con su nuevo look, se mostró feliz de haberse embarcado en el proyecto de lanzamiento de Pura esencia, que así es como ha bautizado su perfume. "Pura esencia es una ilusión cumplida que me permite transmitir mis sentimientos a partir de ahora también en dos fragancias. Con mi espíritu, con mi esencia", explica el cantante.

El aroma se presenta tanto para hombre como para mujer. En su versión masculina es fresco y vital, con notas de bergamota, lima, albahaca, violeta o jazmín, mientras que la femenina tiene un aire sensual, conseguido gracias al nenúfar, jazmín, bergamota, musk o sándalo. Para realizar la imagen del aroma y el spot el cantante ha confiado en Jaume de Laiguana, que también ha realizado el spot de la portada del último disco del cantante.

CIUDAD DE MÉXICO, México, nov. 29, 2006.- La actriz mexicana Salma Hayek Salma Hayek , quien está produciendo Ugly Betty, versión estadounidense de la exitosa telenovela colombiana Bety, la fea, aseguró que el papel de inmigrante ilegal que aparece en dicha versión, le disgusta a un sector de los televidentes.
En una entrevista para el diario Clarín, de Argentina, Hayek dijo que con los Sopranos “todo va bien”, pero cuando se trata de un ilegal, casi apagan la tele, cuando hay personajes en la televisión que se la pasan matando gente y caen simpáticos.

Resulta, que el personaje del ilegal es muy importante para la serie, pues se trata del padre de Betty, el personaje principal, pero el ser ilegal es “demasiado para los estadounidenses”.

La nominada al Oscar por su personificación de Frida, reconoció que ella era "muy fanática" de la versión original de Betty, la fea, porque "era diferente a todas las telenovelas, por humor, sobre todo, y porque siempre amé las historias de perdedores".

La idea de llevar Betty, la fea a la televisión estadounidense, "era tender un puente para traer algo que la comunidad latina sintiera como propio. Ugly Betty' tiene las mismas premisas que la original, pero hemos cambiado los personajes y hemos hecho un muy buen trabajo de adaptación".

Explicó que pensó en comprar la historia porque junto con José Tamez, su socio en la producción, "estuvimos seis o siete años tratando de llevar la experiencia latina a la televisión americana".

"La audiencia americana, por su parte, se encuentra con la típica anécdota del pez fuera del agua y con una crítica a la obsesión por la imagen, que este país sufre realmente", sentenció.
